Project Challenges
This $60 million development includes the construction of a new 122-bed hospital on the site of a former medical center. The primary contractors specified Stormcure for the roofing and waterproofing systems for the flat roof areas.
The roofs were complex, involving numerous details such as vents, level changes, handrail abutments, plant supports, protrusions, stanchion blocks, and parapet walls. It was crucial that these details be waterproofed as efficiently and quickly as possible.
The waterproofing system needed to withstand heavy foot traffic and be impact-resistant, giving the client peace of mind that the walkways could be used without risking damage to the waterproofing integrity.
The Solution
The membrane used for the waterproofing had to be highly durable, lightweight, fully root-resistant, and maintenance-free, which is why Protec FW-25 was specified.
Protec FW-25, being liquid-applied, was used to cover the upstands of these details without the need for lengthy and complicated “patching” work, creating a completely seamless interface between the details and the flat roof membrane.
Given the size of the roof areas, structural expansion and contraction movements had to be considered. The client ideally wanted a waterproofing system that could handle these movements without requiring costly modifications, like expansion joints. Protec FW-25 is specially formulated to be highly flexible while maintaining its durability and long-lasting, hard-wearing properties.
